SUMMARY:The Garden's Edge NM Annual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Saturday\, June 18th for our annual fundraiser in Albuquerque\, NM! \nThis year for our fundraiser\, we are trying something new to highlight our maternal health and nutrition program. We will have a small ceremony to bless children based on Maya tradition. We will combine this ceremony with the idea of a Global Baby Shower to honor the babies we work with in Guatemala as well any special children in your own lives. \nWe invite all of our guests to bring photos of their children\, grandchildren\, adult children\, and families to receive a blessing at the ceremony \nOur nutrition team will set up a demonstration of how they conduct health assessments in the villages. There will be healthy snacks from our project to sample and other fun activities. \nBig thanks to Fusion Theatre Company and the Cell Theatre for sharing their space with us! \nParking will be available in both lots\, north and south of the Cell Theatre.

SUMMARY:Qachuu Aloom Presentation at Beyond Baroque
DESCRIPTION:Please Join the Seed Library of Los Angeles\, Kiss The Ground\, and Environmental Change Makers as they welcome Qachuu Aloom Farmers Association and The Garden’s Edge to Beyond Baroque. \nQachuu Aloom farmers will present their work in Guatemala around farms\, gardens\, seed saving\, community health\, farmer exchanges\, education\, and economic sustainability. \n\n  \nEVENT DETAILS:\nThe farmers will present a slide show and answer questions about their project.\nLOCATION: Beyond Baroque\nADDRESS: 681 Venice Blvd\, Venice\, CA 90291\nSTART TIME: 8:00 PM \nRSVP on Facebook to receive event updates. \nEvent Sponsors include:\nSeed Library of Los Angeles\,\nKiss The Ground\,\nEnvironmental Change-Makers\, and\nMetabolic Studio. \n\n  \nAdditional information from one of the event sponsors\, Environmental Change Makers: \nWhen aid organizations brought only hybrid and GMO seeds that the farmers could not replant to grow food\, fields went barren.  A few elders brought out precious stashes of old varieties of seed that had been saved in old bottles and roof tiles.  Thus started an organization that seems to be part seed library\, part community revitalization\, and part cultural re-membering. \nHere is a beautiful story about Qachuu Aloom seed saving (pdf) as described in Baker Creek’s magazine\, and another conveying their remark that the permaculture principles are “just like I learned from my grandmother.” \nYou can RSVP to Environmental Change Makers by filling out this form.
